Meet the Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section

 

Fen Drayton Governing Body is responsible for three areas:

  • Formulating the strategic direction of the school in partnership with the Headteacher;
  • Ensuring that the school’s budget provides best value for the children in the school;
  • Acting as a critical friend to the Headteacher and staff of the school.

 

The Curriculum and Learning Committee (C&L) 

Providing strategic direction on all matters relating to pupil’s education and social well-being and ensuring standards of attainment and progress are made; ensuring the school’s responsibility to delivering the national curriculum are met; Monitoring the needs of SEN children and those with disability

 

HR Committee (HR) 

Providing strategic direction on the implementation of HR policies fairly and consistently ensuring any decision with a financial implication is made subject to the approval of the governing body; reviewing all HR policies including the non financial elements of Pay/Appraisal policies; monitoring staff training and ensuring staff wellbeing is prioritised and maintained

 

The Resources and Infrastructure Committee (R&I) 

Providing strategic direction all matters relating to the school budget, staff and personnel matters including pay awards, appraisal and training, asset management, premises and health and safety

 

Health and Safety at Work (H & S)

Ensuring the school meets all regulatory requirements in relation to Health and Safety at work legislation.

 

Head Teacher Appraisal Review Committee (HTPR)

Ref: ‘Pay Policy’: The Pay Body will delegate 2 governors, none of whom shall be employees of the Pay Body, to carry out the appraisal review for the Headteacher. The delegated governors may be supported by an external adviser appointed by the Pay Body. The agreed performance objectives and indicators/measures maybe referred for moderation to a meeting of the Chair of the Pay Body.

 

The Pay Review Committee (Pay)

Ref: ‘Pay Policy’: The Pay Review Committee will be part of the R&I committee’s remit and will sit as part of the R&I committee’s meeting time

 

Review Appeals Committee (Review Appeals)

Ref: ‘Pay Policy’: The Pay Review Committee will be part of the R&I committee’s remit and will sit as part of the R&I committee’s meeting time

 

Disciplinary Standing Committee (Staff Discipline)

Ref ‘Disciplinary Procedures Policy’: An employee has a right of appeal against any written warning issued by a senior manager/Headteacher. The appeal will be heard by the Disciplinary Standing Panel. The panel shall be advised by a person engaged for the purpose by the Governing Body. The Panel can make the decision whether the Grounds for appeal are upheld or rejected. The Panel can also either confirm the warning, reduce a final written warning to a first written warning or cancel the warning. An employee has a right of appeal against a decision to issue a warning or to dismiss by Head teacher. An appeal against a warning by the Head teacher will be to the Disciplinary Appeal Committee

 

Disciplinary Appeals Committee (Staff Appeals)

Ref ‘Disciplinary Procedures Policy’: An appeal against dismissal will be to the Disciplinary Appeal Committee of the Governors, which shall have a membership of not less than 3 governors, none of whom shall have any previous involvement in the case. The Appeal Committee shall be advised in its deliberations, normally by a representative of the Director of Education. The Appeals Committee has a duty to consider any advice given by the LA.

 

Pupil Discipline - Exclusion Appeals (Pupil Discipline)

Ref: Behavior Policy and LA Guidance on Exclusions: A single act of very serious misbehaviour may result in a fixed term exclusion. Repeated incidents of very serious misbehaviour may result in aa permanent exclusion. The decision to exclude a pupil is made by the Headtecher who must inform the parents immediately that they have the right to appeal against the decision to the Governing Body. The Discipline Committee of the Governing Body cannot exclude a pupil or extend an exclusion. They will consider any appeals against exclusion and make a decision whether to re-instate the pupil.

The Governing Body of Fen Drayton Primary School comprises of 12 Governors:-

  • One LA Governor - nominated by the Local Authority
  • Four Parent Governors - elected by the parent body
  • Five Co-opted Governors - members of the local community, nominated from community organisations or by other governors
  • One staff Governor - elected by the staff
  • Headteacher (who can choose to be a governor or not)
