Throughout this term we will start to learn about the new topic and discover the fascinating world of dinosaurs!

Year 1

BBC bitesize have put together a clear learning plan for the Summer term; this is for 12 weeks. This programme will help the children to be as well prepared as possible for their next school year. These will help the children to understand the main concepts they need for their work next year and will also cover any new learning that they have not yet done in school. Please click the link below which will take you to the lessons which will be uploaded weekly. There are 3 lessons for each day, however, please do feel free to dip in and out of what you think is best. Each lesson has a video and some activities linked to the learning. This weeks learning covers a range of subjects across the curriculum such as English, Maths, History, Geography, Music, Science and Well being.

Purple Mash:

Dinosaurs: 2do: My dinosaur. Have a go at designing your own dinosaur with the scaly felt tips. Which dinosaur will you design?

English: 2do: Red Riding Hood Bubbles. Think about when we explored traditional tales. Have a go at writing what the characters would be saying in 'Little Red Riding Hood'. What do you think the big bad wolf would say? What do you think Little Red Riding Hood would say?

Maths: 2do: Counting to fill a 10 & 20 frame. How many dots do you need to fill up the tens frame?

Art: 2do: Emotions. Have a go at using the app to draw your emotions. How are you feeling today?

English:

  • Write me a letter or a recount about what you been up to in the Easter holidays. If you are writing a letter think about the following things...How would you start your letter? When do you need a capital letter? What do you need between each word? How will you letter end? If you are writing a recount think about how your recount would begin. Can you challenge yourself to use a time connective? Have a go at using some adjectives (describing words) when telling me about what you have done. If you're not sure at how to spell something, remember to use your phonic knowledge to sound out the word have a go at writing what you hear. Once you have written your letter/recount get your parents to email me a photograph of it and I can reply to you-it will be lovely to hear what you have been up to!
  • Please continue to practise your phonics-use your flash cards and whiteboards to have a go at some writing too. Have you tried some of the games on Phonics play? If not, why not have a go!

Maths:

White Rose Maths have uploaded the new work for the Summer term for both Reception and Year 1. Reception are exploring shapes and patterns-if you are finding the learning through stories too early, explore some of the Year 1 work and perhaps select the bits which you feel would be most appropriate. The children could explore the Week 1 and 2 on the Year 1 home learning Spring block about capacity and measuring.

Year 1 are learning about doubling and making groups (beginning of learning about multiplication.)

Other activities:

  • It has been great to see on the Facebook page that families have been hiding painted stones around the village for you to find on your daily walk. Remember to keep posting photos of the ones you have found. I have created a document below with some of my favourite designs I could find. Why don't you have a go at creating one? Send me a photograph of your lovely painted stone!
  • Please continue to join in with Joe Wicks daily PE lessons! I have had great fun joining in with them and it helps to get me started for the day. Remember it is fancy dress on a Friday, if you feel like joining in send me a photo of you in your outfit! I even had a go at doing it in my mermaid costume...it was a bit tricky in my tail!
  • Draw a picture or write a little message for your Reception, Year 1 or Year 6 buddy. This is a great way of keeping in contact with each other.
  • Have a go at doing some baking/cooking. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/feature/how-get-kids-cooking have got some great recipes that you could have a go at and practise your measuring skills!

30.03.20 & Easter Holidays

Dear Maple and Parents,

I hope that you are all well and are looking after each other. Well done, for all the great work you have been doing at home with your parents/carers. It has been lovely to hear what you have been up to from some of you on Purplemash-please keep staying in touch! I hope you all have had a go at Joe Wicks PE lessons-I have completed all of last week and have even convinced Mr Green to have a go too!

In addition to your home learning packs that were sent home, here are some ideas for you to use over the next few weeks:

Purplemash-I have set some English, Maths and Science activities:

English: Use 2Create a story to illustrate and write your own story. What characters will you have in your story? Use 2do: Chocolate Crispy Cake recipe to write a set of instructions for making cakes. Think about what we learnt in English about writing instructions and remember to your use bossy verbs!

Maths: 2do: Bond Bubbles. Practise recalling your number bonds up to 20 with this game!

Science: 2do: Human Senses and Human body Labelling game. Use what we have learnt in Science about the human body to complete these two activities.

English

  • Write your own poem based on our Poetry Aloud theme, 'Unexpected Guests'. Who will be your unexpected guest in your poem? Once you have decided on your poem, try writing it out as neatly as possible or get an adult to help you. Then you could decorate your poem with some illustrations of what happens in the poem.
  • Continue to practise recalling your phonic sounds at home using the flash cards I gave you. Pick a different sound each day to focus on and have a go at spelling some words containing the sound. Can you challenge yourself to write these into a sentence?
  • Write a recount of your day at home. What have you been up to? Remember to use your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Maths

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ As a school we follow the White Rose Maths planning. They have created some videos and activities to support Maths learning which will be released on a weekly basis. This weeks work is based on weight and mass (week 1) for Year 1 and Exploring Maths through stories for Reception.

Other activities

  • Make an Easter card
  • Write a letter to a family member or friend and send it in the post
  • Cooking
  • Painting

I wish you and your families all the best during these next few weeks. Please remember to enjoy some quality time together too asides from home learning. I will continue to keep in touch via the website and parents can email me at any times.
