Swallows

Our KS1 class (Years 1&2) are taught by Mrs Clarke and Mrs Woodroff. Swallows share the outdoor learning space with Ducklings and enjoy the opportunity to extend their learning through continuous provision opportunities.

 

Phonics and Reading

We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised 2021 scheme for teaching phonics in Y1. The scheme matches the 'Big Cat' books we use in Guided Reading. The children also bring home a free choice that the choose themselves that matches the level they are reading at. 

Some children in Y2 will still be accessing Little Wandle phonics and Big Cat books, whilst others maybe accessing books from Oxford Reading Tree.

These three videos show you how to pronounce the sounds. Notice how the children don’t add an ‘uh’ sound at the end, so they say: ‘t’ not ‘tuh’. Use the downloadable information to help your child remember how to write their letters and say their sounds.
