Our Reception and Year 1 class is known as Dormice and Miss Wiseman and Mrs Ashton are the class teachers. Giving the children a good start to their education is vital in enabling children to achieve their potential. We teach daily phonics, reading and maths alongside the rest of the Early Years and key stage 1 curriculum, utilising the classroom and outdoor learning space.

Children in Year 1 have access to Doodle Learning. The app is free to download and every child has their own log in details. Doodle learning allows children to practice English, Spelling, Maths and Times tables. Children who stay in the 'green' zone will receive an award each week in our celebration assembly.

Please encourage the children to use the games on Phonics Play. Reception can revise Phase 2 and 3 and Year 1 can revise all Phase 2, 3, 4 and 5 sounds.

Phonics and Reading
We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised 2021 scheme for teaching phonics in EYFS. The scheme matches the 'Big Cat' books we use in Guided Reading. The children also bring home a free choice that the choose themselves that matches the level they are reading at.
